1. To Embed a DWF File in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint with Drag & Drop

  1. Open the Microsoft® Word document or PowerPoint® presentation that will receive the DWF™ file.
  2. Display the location in the open document or presentation where you want to insert the DWF file:
  • In Word, place the insertion point where you would like to place the DWF file.
  • In PowerPoint, display the slide that will receive the DWF file.
  1. Start Windows Explorer and position the window so you can see the location where you intend to insert the DWF file.
  2. In Windows Explorer, locate and select the 2D or 3D DWF file you want to insert.
  3. Press and hold the left mouse button and drag the DWF file to the location in the receiving document.
  4. Release the left mouse button to drop the DWF file in place.

Note: In PowerPoint, dropping a DWF file on a text box results in a link to the DWF file rather than an embedded file.

Because embedding a file in the viewer is intended to display a specific DWF file, neither the New nor the Open button is displayed on the Main toolbar. Display the Navigator Pane by right-clicking the canvas and choosing Navigator Pane, or pressing the letter N on the keyboard.

  1. To exit the embedded DWF file, click outside the DWF file area.
  2. Save the Word document or PowerPoint presentation.

2. Embed a DWF File in Microsoft Excel

  1. Open the Microsoft® Excel® file that will receive the DWF file.
  2. Select a cell where you would like to position the top, left corner of the viewer.
  3. Prepare the space for the viewer:
    1. Choose Insert>Object to open the Object dialog box.
    2. On the Create New tab from the Object type: list, select Autodesk DWF Viewer Control and click OK to insert the object. Design mode enables you to change the properties of the control that holds the viewer and the DWF file. If the Design Mode button isn’t displayed, choose View>Toolbars>Control Toolbox.
    3. To resize the object (that is, the “control”), right-click and choose Format Object.
    4. Select the tab, enter the Height and Width you want, and click OK.
  4. Select the DWF file that you want to display and either embed or link to it:
    1. Right-click the object and select Autodesk DWF Viewer Control Object>Properties.
    2. On the Source Path tab, browse to or type the DWF file path and file name.
    3. To embed the DWF file, verify that the Do You Want to Embed a Copy of This File in the Parent Document? option is selected. If this option is cleared, a link to the DWF is inserted in the document.
    4. Click O
  5. Exit design mode to view the file in Autodesk Design Review. Display the Navigator Pane by right-clicking the canvas and choosing Navigator Pane, or pressing the letter N on the keyboard.
  6. Save the Excel file.

Tip: Embedding can produce a very large file, but everything is in one file. Use linking if you want two smaller files.
